Text engl. - Bayard Taylor (1825 - 1878) was an American poet, literary critic, translator, travel author and diplomat. His Picturesque Europeseries was incredibly popular. Volumes I and the first 80 pages of volume II discussGreat Britain and Ireland, including Wales and the Isle of Wight. The volume then proceeds to Normandy, Jersey and the Rhine before touching on Spain and ending in Naples. Volume III startsin Norway before discussing Spain, The Lake of Geneva, Northern Italy, Sicily, Sweden, Switzerland and many more areasbefore finishing at The Danube. The numerous illustrations help to illuminate Taylor's descriptions and historical explanation on each location.
